Stress is the number one health problem in America! Are you at risk for health related consequences?

The American Institute of Stress declares that stress is the number one health problem in America. Unmanaged stress can lead to heart attacks, high blood pressure, stroke, obesity, premature aging, migraines, drug and alcohol abuse, depression, anxiety, memory problems, and many other physical and mental ailments. Stress can even kill. The mind can negatively impact the body. There is growing evidence that chronic stress contributes to 80% of ALL illnesses, physical as well as mental.

There are many different forms of stress..... 

There are so many different forms of stress in our society nowadays that it is almost impossible to escape. There is physical stress, psychological stress, emotional stress, and spiritual stress.  There is also good stress and bad stress. However, our body can not tell the difference between the different forms of stress and responds the same way regardless of what form it presents intself in.  Stress is cumulative; it continues to add up and its effect can impact health.  Stress increases the production of stress hormones and neurotransmitters. If these levels do not return to baseline, they continue to circulate in the body and do serious damage.

1. Stress can kill. The stress response itself can damage body tissues leading to heart attack and stroke.

2. Stress is the trigger for the development of many chronic illness such as heart disease, high blood pressure, inflammatory diseases, diabetes, ulcers, Crohn's Disease, IBS, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, migraines, asthma, and arthritis.

3. Stress can increase or make chronic health symptoms worse in those who are already sick.

4. The way some people cope with stress can actually hurt them. This includes eating to cope, smoking more, drinking and using drugs.

5. Stress compromises your immune system and makes you more prone to illness such as colds and flus. Ever notice when you are stressed out you tend to get a cold?

6. Stress can make mental health symptoms worse or can make some prone to developing mental illness such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and PTSD.

7. Stress can prematurely age us. 
Researchers at UC San Francisco say they have found the first direct evidence that severe and chronic emotional stress can age people biologically.

8. Stress can damage brain cells leading to memory related problems.

Stress management is learning to either reduce your stress or cope with your stress.  Regular relaxation, stress reduction techniques, exercise,  proper nutrition, herbs, social support, changing the way you think, selfcare, time management, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are all holistic ways to manage and buffer stress and achieve health and wellness. These are all techniques that Mind, Soul, and Self can teach you in their Holistic Stress Management series. 

The Holistic Stress Management Series consists of 1 intensive six hour class. Can also be broken down into 3 two hour long classes or 6 one hour long classes. You will learn how stress effects your mind, body, and spirit. You will be introduced to 100 physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and metaphysical methods of relaxing, combating stress, reducing stress, and managing your stress.  Managing stress can increase wellness, lengthen lifespan, and improve overall health. Next group class is scheduled for Sunday January 15th from 10am to 4pm in Madison. This class can be taught online via Skype, email, or other chat service or over the phone for a reduced price.
